What the IR Camera Really Sees: Resistance and Risk

Infrared isn’t magic—just basic electrical physics applied under load. Use it to find resistance, rank risk, and plan the right fix at the right time.

Infrared is honest. When current meets resistance, you get heat. A thermal camera shows you where that resistance is hiding—loose lugs, tired terminations, carbon-tracked insulators, mis-torqued joints, overloaded conductors. If the plant is under meaningful load, the signature pops. That’s the whole game.

A good survey doesn’t stop at “looks hot.” We compare like-to-like and document a temperature rise (ΔT) against a valid reference, not just ambient. That keeps the call grounded and repeatable—especially when the plant’s running hard or ambient is high.

  • Plan routes around production
  • Scan energized, under-load gear where safe and permitted
  • Classify findings with ΔT bands tied to action
  • Convert images into work orders—“tighten B-phase lug at CB-3; verify torque; inspect contact surface; retest under load.”
